              Lactulose : An Overview


Whenever a Hospitalised Patients is suffering from Constipation or a Patient cannot defectae after any surgery in that situation Lactulose is widely used to treat Constipation.


How It Works :  It is a disaccharide which breaks down into acids in the large intestine which draw the water into colon. When water is drawn into the colon the stool present in the colon softens. This soften stool can easily be excreted. So Simple!


Side Effects : 

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Bloating
  • Gas

Dosage :

1.Adult - 30-45 mL
2.Pediatric - 2.5 -10 mL


How to Take : 

1.Orally Lactulose is usually taken after meal      at bedtime
2.Rectally Lactulose is also administered.


Never take any medication without the permission of Doctor as this might result in severe damages.
