Amlodipine : An Overview

Introduction : 

Amlodipine is a widely used Anti Hypertensive Drug. It is a Calcium Channel Blocker. It dilates blood vessels and improves blood supply. It is used to treat angina. It is used for children  (>6 Yr) as well as for adults.







Mechanism of Action :  Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion infl
ux across cell membranes which in term causes
 greater effect on vascular smooth muscle cells. This results in vasodilation and a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance  thats why thus blood pressure reduces.






Drug Interaction:  1.Avoid Alcohol ( lowers blood pressure)

                      2.Avoid in Congestive Heart Failure




 

Contraindications: 1.Congestive Heart Failure

                                  2.Liver Disease

                                  3.Aortic stenosis.

Administration: It is administered by Oral Route (P.O.)

Doses: 5mg, 10mg (Always administer this drug on a Doctor's prescription.

Drug Overdose: In case of drug overdose call the National Poison Control Centre India
